It’s Day Nineteen of my Twenty-One Tools post series! Today, you can download a Primer for Balancing an Unequal Life by Eileen McDargh
About fifteen years ago (I can hardly believe it has been that long) I was a keynote speaker at a multi-national tech firm conference. I’d been invited to speak on the topic of balancing life. It was back in the days when we all naively believed that our lives couldn’t actually get any busier. The keynote was one of my most requested for years.
So many people were interested in the content that I eventually turned it into a downloadable ebook called Balance for the Chronically Overwhelmed – Keeping Your Head Without Losing Your Mind and it’s still being downloaded today.
Fast forward to 2018. We’re busier. We’re more distracted (and distractible). Many of us, despite our best efforts, are still chronically overwhelmed. Dang it all!!! What we have learned in the meantime is that balance may not be achievable. Maintaining our resilience and energy in the face of ever-increasing demands is the objective now.
Today’s download is from Eileen McDArgh, founder of The Resiliency Group and author of Your Resiliency GPS: A Guide for Growing Through Life and Work.
Eileen’s speaker gift is specifically for anyone looking to get a handle on gaining more control in their work/non-work lives.
Here’s a sample from the download, A Primer for Balancing an Unequal Life
The word “balance” implies equality. What baloney! Life is never equal. Forget the pan scale. Think instead of a sailboat. Sailboats move forward, even on a sharp tilt, if you are consciously connected (spending time) with the most important parts of your boat: intellectual (work), emotional (people), physical (your body), material (what you support) and spiritual (higher power). In this phase of your life, what are your critical connection points in these five areas? Where are you choosing to be connected? Remember, when the wind shifts, you shift. For example, if you’re preparing for the large annual meeting you might not be able to spend as much time with your family so you adjust.
Benefits: A Primer for Balancing an Unequal Life
- Understand why traditional models of balance no longer work in these times of change
- Acquire the skills to “sail” within the five critical areas of living
