34 CCE Units can be a challenge to find, especially if your ICF credential renewal is looming, and you haven’t started gathering them with continuing education.
If that sounds like you, Coach, I have some terrific news for you!
I have been working on two big projects this year. Both are CCE unit programs, and both are in the Core Competency category! Together, these programs will provide a grand total of…wait for it… 34 Core Competency (CC) Continuing Coach Education units.
Registration is now open for the first program, the Coach Competency Collective. It’s a monthly, ongoing program, and you can join any time.
So many of my coach clients have said, that they wish they could work with me regularly after they complete group mentor coaching.
They inspired me (okay, they strongly invited me) to create a program where they could meet with me monthly to ask credentialing questions, brush up on their competencies, and participate in recording reviews. They also loved the idea of doing this in a group. So, ta-da, here it is!!
You can earn 24 CCE units (CC) with your coaching colleagues, learn competency skills, and have fun!
I hope you will join your coaching colleagues and me! In fact, why not spread the word and get your fellow coaches to join too. The more the merrier 🙂

The second program is still under wraps. All I can tell you is that it is a self-directed program providing 10 CCE units in the Core Competency Category. I’ll keep you posted.
While we are talking competencies, let’s take a few minutes for an ICF CCE unit refresher.
If you are an International Coaching Federation credential holder, you are required to keep up on your coach learning. That’s one of the things I like most about ICF. There are standards of performance, and standards for learning and development. No wonder the International Coaching Federation is the leader in the field of coach credentialing.
When it is time to renew your credential, you will need to have accumulated forty ICF Continuing Coach Education units.
Of these forty units, twenty-four must be in the Core Competency (CC) category, and sixteen units can be in the Resource Development (RD category).
What is the Difference Between a CC and an RD Continuing Education Unit?
Core Competency CCE units, must include a robust focus on the ICF Competencies and will have been pre-approved as such by the ICF. The provider will indicate this on their materials, and they will likely use the ICF CCE logo. When in doubt, use the ICF Education Search Service (ESS) to see if the course is listed. If it isn’t there, it has likely not been officially accredited.
With the upcoming shift in competencies, some providers are no longer accredited, and some new providers have joined the list. It’s a good idea to check the ESS periodically to see what new offerings are available.
This service is also an excellent search tool for seeking programs that will provide both types of ICF CCE units.
If you are an ICF Chapter member, be sure to read your monthly newsletters. They are a great place to source ICF CCE providers.
The Resource Development Units Options are Everywhere
You have already accumulated a number of these since you first acquired the credential that you are planning to renew.
Pro-Tip: You can open a credential renewal on the ICF website at any time and begin populating your CCE table. You can go in and out of your application whenever you have something to add. You will only submit and pay for the application when you have input all your requirements.
If you have participated in any of the following, since the date you were awarded the credential, you plan to renew, they count as Resource Development CCE units.
Non-coach-specific training: Courses on business development, assessment certifications, communication, negotiating, writing, or other topics that have contributed to your skill-building in coaching.
Reading: Coaching books, white papers, research documents, or self-study materials that have helped you grow as a coach.
Writing: Workshops, presentations, articles, or documents that you have written on topics related to coaching or coach development.
Research: Formal academic research that you have conducted relative to coaching or coach-related topics.
Archived Virtual Education or Live Attendance at ICF Chapter and Global events.
Recordings of ICF events, presentations, and webinars. ICF members have access to a robust catalogue of rich coach learning through the ICF website.
ICF Approved Training Designated as Self-study: Components of a formal and approved coaching training program that you are not required to attend in real-time but that you complete on a self-paced, individual basis.
There are varying documentation requirements for each of these options. As I always recommend, see the ICF website for your most official and up-to-date information.
Even though you have three years to collect all forty of the required ICF CCE units for credential renewal, it’s a good idea to start early. As soon as my credential renews, I get started working on my next round of ICF CCE units.
It can be very stressful scrambling for ICF CCE unit programs at the last minute. I renew at the end of this year, and I have accumulated more units than I need. From my perspective, that’s a bonus! I’ve learned a ton and ramped up my coaching skills.
I’m very jazzed about starting the monthly ICF CCE unit program. I’d be delighted if you would join me. Registration is limited. You can save your seat here.
